Endless Sea (opera in development) is a powerful reimagining of the life and legend of 10th-century poet Rabia Balkhi, one of the earliest known female voices in Persian literature. Weaving poetry, mysticism, and haunting vocal lines, the opera tells the story of her forbidden love—an act of defiance that ultimately leads to her tragic death. Through Rabia’s voice, Endless Sea becomes a meditation on love, resistance, and the enduring power of a woman’s words in a world that sought to silence her.
Based on Aeschylus’ Hikétides (c. 460 BCE),
The Refugees is an uncannily contemporary opera about the rights of refugees, the duties of democratic states, and the complexities of international humanitarianism—told from the perspective of a chorus of exiled women.
